Room to Grow Cultural Sensitivity Policy

Cultural sensitivity is building understanding between members, to be respectful and open to different cultures, to work towards equality, respect diversity and embrace culture in our center. So what does cultural sensitivity mean and why is it so important for people to have their culture and cultural backgrounds acknowledged, respected and valued?

Culture is defined as “the attitudes, habits, norms, beliefs, behaviors, customs and rituals that express a member’s environment. All members should avoid using their own culture as a means to determine appropriate behavior in other cultures. In addition, there are differences within one’s own culture. Culture is the building block of a member’s identity and is essential to their sense of who they are and where they belong.

Here in the center we ask all members to be open and respectful of all cultural differences. The center is a safe zone for members from all walks of life any disrespect of a member’s cultural background or lifestyle is not permitted and will be followed up according to the RSC behavioral policy, we ask members to work together to keep the center as a place where people can be themselves without scrutiny and/or judgement.
