The 8 Room to Grow RSC Practices

  1. We treat each other and the center with dignity and respect. We recognize that we all need help sometimes and welcome guidance and support from fellow members and from staff to help us create a positive and safe community.

  2. We maintain a judgement free zone we respect every member’s unique value. We do this no matter their choice of recovery pathway and process or their religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability and whatever other personal circumstances and characteristics they may bring into the Center. We’re all inclusive, but respect each other’s individuality.

  3. We promote positive language & attitudes our Center is a place of emotional and physical safety and positivity. We avoid profanity and derogative comments. There should never be any verbal or physical intimidation, including threats or punching, slamming or throwing objects. We avoid gossip, shaming and judgemental, derogative comments and share in the responsibility to stop it if and when it starts.

  4. We show up with a positive, substance-free appearance we avoid appearances and behaviors that can be triggering to others or suggest that we are under the influence of a substance.  We do not come to the center under the influence or if we smell of alcohol, marijuana, K2, or other substances. We do not exchange or share medications among eachother and/or wear sunglasses within the center.

  5. We require participation we want to be involved in the life of the Center. Each member can participate in the activity of their choice. We know that some people are more involved than other and that’s ok, but the hope is that we eventually feel comfortable enough to participate how ever we choose...

  6. We maintain confidentiality we do not tell nonmembers who is a member here or ask our nonmember friends or family members to come up to the center looking for us, who is seen here, and what is shared here, stays here.

  7. We recognize that our behaviors affect each other and the vibe of the Center as a Recovery Community We do not staff split, we avoid using the center for activities that are not recovery-focused, such as sleeping, using the bathroom for sink-bathing or other personal hygiene activities, viewing inappropriate online resources that can make people feel uncomfortable. We avoid talking on our cell phones in the center inorder to respect eachother’s personal space or using them during groups in order to respect members who are speaking (including on headsets).

  8. We remember to care for our belongings we accept that the center staff are not responsible for our belongings and valuables so we don’t leave our things unattended and do not store our belongings in the center.

These Practices were established by the RSC community for the RSC community and are not subject to change
